Making the most of your visit
Make the most of your visit. We love seeing sponsors visit their sponsored children. A smooth, trouble-free visit is always our goal.
To that end,and to protect children and safeguard against potential allegations of inappropriate conduct, the following guidelines need to be followed during all child visits:
- A Compassion staff member or trained representative will accompany visitors at all times during an individual visit.
- A visitor may go to a child's home for a meal or a visit, if invited, and a Compassion staff member or representative accompanies him or her.
- Visitors may not stay overnight with children, whether in a staff member's home or elsewhere.
- Visitors may not ask for or accept accommodations at the child development center or with the family of the sponsored child.
- Visitors will be educated on how to be culturally sensitive in expressing affection to their sponsored child.
- Visitors need to show respect to the children they meet. They need to avoid flirting, unwelcome flattery or making suggestive comments.
- Visitors may not give any personal contact information to their sponsored child and will not ask for or record the sponsored child's contact information.
- Compassion requires a criminal background check for all visitors 18 and older. When we receive your visit request, we will provide you with instructions on remitting payment of the $40 nonrefundable, non-tax-deductible fee, as well as on submitting the information to our third-party vendor, Protect My Ministry.
